Wix and Squarespace are great starter websites to start your business but at some point, your website needs to grow. But Wix and Squarespace can be limiting in terms of what they supply per package tier. Having your own WordPress site with the drag-and-drop Elementor plugin gives you the freedom to customise your website at a reduced long term cost.

There’s a lot that can be done with Elementor using its base components, as well as dynamic content being pulled in from other plugins. However, this isn’t always ideal and a customised widget can help you achieve that fully realised design. It could be a specialised slider or maybe hiking data on a blog.

WordPress Customisation – themes & plugin development

WordPress is a customisable platform that can be made into lots of different things, than just a blogging website. Sometimes when you are looking for a specific design for your site, there are times where the themes aren’t just quite there and you need help in customising those to get the correct vision for your website. Other times it’s better to start from scratch so that you get the best in terms of an optimised site without unneeded or unused javascript/css which can cause performance issues when tested with Page Speed Insights.

The same can be said for WordPress plugins. There’s a huge variety of them and they can either be customised or made from scratch. The only issue with customised plugins from the WordPress plugin repository is that the changes are very likely to be reverted when an update occurs. Some plugins do offer overrides for how they look and work but this isn’t always the case.

Figma and Marvel are online design tools that can be made to create websites. They have a good handover feature that allows developers access to layout information including image downloads and CSS code to make editing websites a smoother transition. It’s my preferred method for this type of work.
